BREAKING: Judge Mostly Blocks Trump’s 3rd Travel Ban

Law360, New York (October 17, 2017, 3:24 PM EDT) — A Hawaii federal judge on Tuesday largely blocked the Trump administration’s third travel ban, issuing the order not long before some of the restrictions were set to take effect on Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson issued a temporary restraining order blocking the Trump administration from implementing travel restrictions for nationals of Chad, Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Somalia. The restrictions for North Korea and Venezuela were not affected, however.

Law360, New York (August 31, 2017, 7:04 PM EDT) — President Donald Trump’s administration has agreed to contact travelers from seven majority-Muslim countries who were excluded from the U.S. due to his first executive travel ban order and advise them of their right to reapply for admission under the terms of a settlement announced on Thursday.

The deal brings an end to a proposed class action filed by the American Civil Liberties Union, the International Refugee Assistance Project and other groups in response to Trump’s Jan.

The bipartisan Dream Act of 2017 was just introduced by Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Richard Durbin (D-IL) in the U.S. Senate. The bill provides legal status, as well as a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrant youth who entered the United States before the age of 18.

The Dream Act, if passed into law, will allow young immigrants who have called the United States home for most of their lives to begin to realize their full potential and know the sense of security that comes with living with documentation.

Law360, New York (July 19, 2017, 2:17 PM EDT) — The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday denied the government’s bid to include grandparents and other relatives in its travel ban, dealing a setback to the Trump administration on its travel restriction policy.

In a brief order, the Supreme Court denied the Trump administration’s motion for “clarification,” which asked the justices to find the government had correctly interpreted close family relationships to exclude relatives like grandparents, grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

WASHINGTON – In accordance with the judge’s ruling, DHS has suspended any and all actions implementing the affected sections of the Executive Order entitled, “Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States.”

This includes actions to suspend passenger system rules that flag travelers for operational action subject to the Executive Order.

DHS personnel will resume inspection of travelers in accordance with standard policy and procedure.

At the earliest possible time, the Department of Justice intends to file an emergency
